Process:
- Work in groups of 5 to 6
- Research the client and it’s sector business models (use all available literature; company website, literature online, surveys, and client meeting)
- Client’s representative will the students to give background about the company and address students’ questions. Share data that could help in the process. During this meeting we might need to sign an NDA (No Disclosure Agreement) where we are bound by the contract not to share any data provided by the client with any third parties.
- Go through the three steps of analyzing a case study:
- Identification: sharp diagnosis of strategic issues and key problems. (use the internal and external evaluation tools studied in the course)
- Analysis and evaluation: check the company’s financial ratios, its profit margins, and its capital structure, and decide how strong the firm is financially (only if shared by the client). Look at marketing, managerial competence and other factors underlying the company’s success. Look at the resources and competencies and if the company is capitalizing on them. Decide whether and why the firm’s competitive position is getting stronger or weaker.
- Recommendations: set recommendations and plan of actions. The set of recommendations should address all the problems or issues you have identified in the two steps before. Avoid recommending anything you would not yourself be willing to do if you were in management’s shoes.
- Prepare a written report as per the template provided OR if the client asks for a presentation you will prepare an oral presentation and present to the client. Follow the report template posted on BB.
