The purpose of this exercise is to identify a trademark for a business. Pick a business that you know well. Then follow the steps below to identify a trademark.
Step 1: Identify a word, number, phrase, symbol, design, or combination thereof that you would like to trademark.
Step 2: Go to www.uspto.go and search existing trademarks to make sure that the word, number, phrase, symbol, or design you selected is not already trademarked. If so, evaluate whether you would be allowed to use the same word, phrase, number, symbol, or design. If your evaluation is positive, explain why. If your evaluation is negative, select something else to trademark.
Step 3: Once you have identified something that you can trademark, outline the steps that you’ll take to obtain a trademark on it.
Step 4: Explain how the trademark will help your business. What will the trademark protect? How will you enhance the value of the trademark?
